Employer Reference

An employer reference is completed, showing the employer's perspective on how the apprentice has performed in the workplace and how they have applied their knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Interview with an Independent End Point Assessor (IEPA)

The IEPA will explore the following with the apprentice.

What

The apprentice has shown they can do.

How

The way in which the work has been done.

With Whom

The personal and interpersonal qualities the apprentice has brought to all their work relationships.
The End Point Assessment will be carried out remotely by the IEPA, with the portfolio, project and reference submitted electronically via ACE360. The structured interview will take place via video call.

The EPA Process

The Independent End Point Assessor will provide:
  1. A band of synoptic projects, of which one will be selected by the employer and training provider for the apprentice to complete.
  2. A template for the employer reference will be provided and should be completed by someone who is senior to the apprentice and has witnessed the apprentice’s learning and progression throughout the apprenticeship. This is usually the apprentice’s line manager, however it can also be a project sponsor or another stakeholder.

The Timescales

The apprentice usually has no more than 3 months to complete the End Point Assessment once the gateway has been completed. Dates can be scheduled for the project and structured interview with any reasonable adjustment requirement met.

Apprentices should send their completed portfolio to their training provider to upload to ACE360 within one month prior to the gateway sign-off.

The project and employer reference will be completed at least 7 days before the interview is scheduled. This gives the IEPA time to assess it and prepare for the interview.

Following the structured interview, the IEPA will mark and grade your performance and submit the results via ACE360 for internal verification and Internal Quality Assurance checks. These results will be visible to the training provider via ACE360, however we will formally email you once this is done, usually within 10 working days.

On successful completion of your EPA, we will claim your Institute for Apprentices and Technical Education (IfATE) Certificate via ACE360. This will be posted directly to the address allocated on ACE360 (usually the employer’s address) within 31 days.

The 31 days duration is due to any appeals against the decision made by the IEPA. This will not apply to any distinction graded EPA’s.
